No. 1 Aberdeen girls remain unbeaten

The No. 3 Mount St. Joseph boys basketball team was coming off a 23-point loss Sunday, and St. Maria Goretti had upset No.5 John Carroll on Friday. But Goretti found a second upset of a Top 5 team a tall order, as Mount St. Joseph won Tuesday, 79-46.

Mount St. Joseph (18-3) used tough man-to-man defense to take away Goretti's vaunted 3-point game and hold it to 15 points in the first half. Mount St. Joseph, paced by Kameron Williams with 23 points, led by as many as 33 points in the second half.

Mount St. Joseph lost to Our Savior New American (N.Y.), 87-64, at the Hoop Hall Classic at Springfield College (Mass.), and Goretti (11-8) beat the Patriots (17-5), 66-63.

No. 7 City 64, Friendship 31: The host Knights (8-2) went on a 28-7 run in the second quarter to pull away. City's Charles Tapper led all scorers with 14 points.

No. 8 Forest Park 65, Southwestern 61: Anton Waters sparked a 23-14 run in the fourth quarter with a combination of rebounds and put-backs to lift the visiting Foresters (10-1) over the Sabers.

Southwestern trailed 37-21 at the half before going on a 21-8 run in the third quarter to cut the lead to 45-42.

Rysheed Corbin had a game-high 22points for Forest Park.

Boys' Latin 41, Archbishop Curley 33: The visiting Lakers went 24-for-31 from the free-throw line to beat the Friars. Casey Rees led Boys' Latin with 23 points.

Ben Franklin-Masonville 64, Maritime Academy 58: The visiting Anchors pulled to within four with a minute to go, but the Bayhawks (9-4) held on. Franklin was led by Leon Fleming with 17 points and Jesse Barr with 16.

Girls basketball

No. 1 Aberdeen 76, Fallston 44: Bri Jones scored a game-high 24 points to power the visiting Eagles (12-0) past the Cougars.

Wrestling

No. 6 Owings Mills wins two: The host Eagles (17-1) beat Loch Raven, 60-18, and Chesapeake-BC, 78-6, at their tri-meet. Zach Shapiro (132) won both matches by pins in under 30 seconds.

Owings Mills collected forfeits from the Bayhawks and had two runs of four pins in a row against the Raiders.

Monday boys basketball

Gonzaga (D.C.) 75, No. 4 Patterson 73: Kris Jenkins hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Eagles (15-0) over the Clippers (8-4) at the first Martin Luther King Hoopfest Showcase at Coolidge (D.C.). Patterson has lost three straight games.
