The First Tee of Howard County will be opening its winter 2012 sessions in February. The PLAYer session, for students ages 7 and older, will be taught in four-week increments. The PAR session (age 9 and older) is by invitation only and will be offered for eight weeks. There will also be a re-evaluation opportunity, by invitation only, for participants who have not passed their PAR/Birdie (age 11 and over) exams.

The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting registration for the Howard County Boys High School Rugby League and the Girls High School Rugby Program, ages 14-18. High school boys and girls can now play the full tackle version of rugby. Both experienced players and novices are welcome. Play this international sport against teams and schools from surrounding counties at different locations. Practices will be weekday evenings beginning mid-January. Matches start in March and end in late May. Co-sponsored by the Potomac Rugby Union. Cost: $125. The program begins Jan. 23. Register at 410-313-7275.


The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting registration for the indoor Howard County Winter Baseball Tune-Up (ages 8-16). This program focuses on positional break down, defensive fielding, hitting and some base running. Players are divided into groups based on ability and age. Cost: $110. The program begins Jan. 15. The regular meeting of Talkin' Baseball will take place Jan. 14 at 9 a.m. at Brighton Gardens, 7110 Minstrel Way, Columbia. Bob Luke will discuss his book, "The Most Famous Woman in Baseball: Effa Manley and the Negro Leagues." Everyone is welcome.

Registration is open for the Elkridge Youth Organization spring soccer program. Regular registration ends on Jan. 31; late registration ends Feb. 28. Register early as some leagues do fill up.

EYO soccer is a coed, recreational program that places an emphasis on instruction, fitness and fun. Games are played at Rockburn Park and Waterloo Park. All players ages 4-18 are welcome. There are no tryouts required for the recreational leagues and all players are afforded substantial playing time.

The Central Maryland Soccer Association is accepting team registration for its spring season which begins March 25. The league is open to all USSF affiliated school, recreation and club level travel teams.

All games will take place on Sunday afternoons. Separate boys and girls divisions are available in the single age groupings of 8-U through 17-U. Ages 7 through 12 will compete 8v8, with ages 12 through 17 competing 11v11. CMSA is an affiliate league of US Club Soccer and the Soccer Association for Youth national organizations.
