Dylon Cormier (Cardinal Gibbons) and Robert Olson scored 23 and 16 points, respectively, and the host Loyola men's basketball team pulled away from Canisius, 77-62, on Saturday at Reitz Arena.
The Greyhounds (11-4, 4-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) took a 15-point lead 4:05 into the second half on an offensive rebound and layup by Anthony Winbush, but the Golden Griffins (3-12, 0-5) scored 21 of the next 31 points to close within 57-53 on a 3-pointer by Alshwan Hymes with 10:14 left.
Olson scored the next seven points, building Loyola's advantage 64-53 with a 3-pointer at 7:28. Harold Washington made a jumper on the Golden Griffins' ensuing possession, but Cormier made a 3 just 14 seconds later from the corner, putting Loyola's lead back into double digits.
Morgan State 73, South Carolina State 68: Ameer Ali scored 19 points and the visiting Bears (3-9, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) held off a rally by the Bulldogs (4-11, 0-2). Morgan State shot 41.7 percent from the field and broke a two-game losing streak.
Savannah State 72, Coppin State 60: The Eagles' Tony Gallo scored 15 points and Antonio Williams added 14, but the host Tigers (6-9, 2-1 MEAC) overcame a nine-point deficit to win. Coppin (6-9, 1-1) led at the half and 45-36, with 17:16 left in the game, before Savannah State rallied.
Norfolk State 78, UMES 72: Louis Bell and Percy Woods each scored 15 points, but the visiting Hawks (3-12, 0-2 MEAC) fell to the Spartans (11-5, 3-0).
Lafayette 65, Navy 63: Ryan Willen scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half to help the visiting Leopards (6-10, 1-0 Patriot League) beat the Midshipmen (3-12, 0-1).
Navy led 57-53 behind a layup by Jordan Sugars (20 points) with 3:25 left before Lafayette went on a 9-0 run.
Maine 89, UMBC 70: The host Black Bears (8-5, 2-0 America East) shot 51 percent, including 8-for-18 on 3-pointers and 27-for-29 on free throws to beat the Retrievers (2-13, 1-2). Chase Plummer had 17 points for UMBC.
Mount St. Mary's 66, Fairleigh Dickinson 45: The visiting Mount (3-12, 1-3 Northeast Conference) used a 21-3 first-half run to take control. Danny Thompson finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists for the Mount (3-12, 1-3 NEC), while Julian Norfleet had 14 points and three assists. Josh Castellanos (11 points, three assists) and Kelvin Parker (10 points, five rebounds) also reached double figures.
Salisbury 70, Frostburg State 66: Three straight 3-pointers from Tim Harwood helped the host Sea Gulls overcome the Bobcats.
Washington College 84, Gettysburg 82, OT: Kevin Breslin (16 points) converted a 3-point play to force overtime and made two free throws with one second left in overtime to lift the Shoremen (8-5, 4-2 Centennial Conference) over the Bullets (5-7, 2-3). Washington College led 67-60 with less than two minutes left in regulation. Gettysburg went on a 7-0 run and took its first lead, 70-67, with 25 seconds left.
St. Mary's 80, Wesley 70: The host Seahawks (11-3, 5-0 Capital Athletic Conference) made 16 of 18 free throws, including 11 in the final two minutes, to beat the Wolverines (4-9, 2-2).
Moravian 91, Goucher 68: The host Greyhounds (6-7, 2-1 Landmark Conference) went on a 14-2 run with eight minutes left to beat the Gophers (3-10, 0-3).
Ursinus 71, Johns Hopkins 55: The Bears (4-9, 3-3 Centennial) broke a halftime tie by outscoring the Blue Jays (7-4, 3-1) 36-20 in the second half. Jimmy Hammer had 18 points for Hopkins.
Muhlenberg 71, McDaniel 70: AJ Dean made two free throws with 3.2 seconds left to lift the visiting Mules (9-2, 3-2 Centennial) over the Green Terror (4-8, 1-4).
Lebanon Valley 81, Stevenson 60: Joe Meehan (24), Danny Brooks (22) and Jordan Stewart (20) combined for 66 points to power the visiting Dutchmen (8-5) past the Mustangs (3-9).
Hood 73, Marymount 62: Lavar Rich led all scorers with 16 points and the host Blazers (9-4, 2-3 CAC) have won five straight. The Saints fell to 3-10 and 1-5.
Loyola 67, Siena 54: Miriam McKenzie (19), Kara Marshall (18) and Katie Sheahin (17) all scored in double figures for the visiting Greyhounds (5-9, 1-2 MAAC) and Joe Logan became the program's all-time winningest coach with 101 victories.
Navy 60, Lafayette 55: Kara Pollinger made a layup with 6:22 left to give the Mids (8-7, 1-0 Patriot) the lead, 46-44, for good. Navy trailed 30-18 at the half. Pollinger and Audrey Bauer each finished with 18 points.
Coppin State 71, Savannah State 45: Leola Spotwood and Shawntae Payne each scored 17 points and the visiting Eagles (6-9, 1-1 MEAC) shot 70 percent from the field in the second half to win their fourth straight. Coppin State (6-9, 1-1) shot just 36.4 percent from the field in the first half but then made 14 of 20 attempts in the second half.
UMBC 75, Maine 55: The visiting Retrievers (8-8, 2-1 America East) used two 8-0 runs in the first half to build a lead and keep it. Erin Brown finished with a game-high 23 points, and Michelle Kurowski added 14.
