Six injured in Beltway pileup

Outer loop traffic briefly halted

December 11, 2011|By Timothy B. Wheeler, The Baltimore Sun

A pileup involving eight vehicles on Interstate 695 in Catonsville Sunday morning sent six people to area hospitals, including a state trooper, and blocked outer loop Beltway traffic for about 30 minutes, Maryland state police said.

One of the injured was a woman who had left her vehicle to check on an initial crash and was then pinned by her vehicle after it was hit, said Cpl. Tom Heath of the Golden Ring barracks.

Two people were transported to the University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center, state police said. The trooper's hand was cut by broken glass at the accident scene, Heath said.
