Swimming: Fallston and North Harford start season with victories

Cougars top Patterson Mill, Harford Tech, while Hawks drop Mariners

The North Harford swim squad picked up an overall victory on Tuesday night, defeating the Joppatowne Mariners 221-112 in a dual meet at North Harford Middle School.

The Hawk girls defeated the Mariners 120-49, while the North Harford boys team topped Joppatowne 101-63.

Leading the way for the Hawks were Zoey Friedel, who took top honors in the girls 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, and Robbie Beichler, who raced to first place in the boys 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle.

Joppatowne's top individual performer was Jess Marx, who won the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races.

North Harford's other individual winners were Chase Reeves, boys 200-yard freestyle; Nicole Racine, girls 200-yard individual medley; Max Wilson, boys 100-yard freestyle; Haley Jacobs, girls 100-yard freestyle; Chase Reeves, boys 100-yard butterfly; Becky Jump, girls 100-yard butterfly; Kevin Snee, boys 100-yard breaststroke; and Emily Boegner, girls 100-yard breaststroke.

Joppatowne's Tyler DiBastiani won the boys 100-yard backstroke.

Fallston drops Patterson Mill, Harford Tech

Monday's tri-meet at Magnolia Middle School saw the Fallston swim squad take overall victories over the Patterson Mill and Harford Tech teams.

The Cougars defeated Patterson Mill 116-72, and topped Harford Tech 123-65. Patterson Mill was able to come through with a 107-80 win over the Cobras.

Patterson Mill's girls squad beat Fallston, 50-44, and Harford Tech, 69-24, while Fallston's girls team dropped Harford Tech 66-28. In the boys events, Fallston was dominant, beating Patterson Mill 72-22 and Harford Tech 57-37. Harford Tech's boys squad won its matchup with Patterson Mill, 56-38.

The Cougars top individual performers were Austin Appel and Madison Brown, who took two victories apiece. Appel raced to first-place finishes in the 100-yard and 50-yard freestyle sprints, while Brown took top honors in the girls 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle races.

Harford Tech's Brandon Carestia was a double winner, taking first place in the boys 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke, while teammate Katie Doleschal also brought home a pair of individual wins, earning top honors in the girls 100-yard breaststroke.

Patterson Mill's top point earner was Sydney Thompson, who beat the field in both the girls 100-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle races. Savannah Dawson was the Huksies' other individual winner, taking first in the girls 100-yard butterfly.

The Fallston squad swept the 200-yard freestyle race, with Sam Burgess winning the boys event, while Sarah Roesner finished first in the girls section. Fallston's Andrew Lagan won the boys 100-yard butterfly, while fellow Cougar Grant Burgess took first in the boys 500-yard freestyle.

Harford Tech freshman Justin Carestia picked up his first varsity victory, winning the boys 100-yard breaststroke.
