Lewis joined by Birk, Grubbs on sideline Wednesday

Lewis absent, Birk and Grubbs present but not active

While the absence of inside linebacker Ray Lewis from the portion of Wednesday’s practice open to the media wasn’t startling, the sight of center Matt Birk and left guard Ben Grubbs not participating was.

Both Birk and Grubbs stood in the end zone watching the rest of the offensive line work during group drills. The pair was dressed, but did not have helmets and did not take part in the exercises.

Lewis, who has sat out the last three games due to turf toe on his right foot, was not present. Neither was cornerback Chris Carr, who has missed the last two contests with a recurring back ailment.
