DALLAS — There was a little confusion Tuesday night with regard to DeMarlo Hale, the Boston Red Sox bench coach who is expected to head to Baltimore.
ESPN Boston reported that he is out in Boston. That will be the case, according to an industry source. And he is expected to join the Orioles as third base coach.
That should be announced soon.
The holdup is that Hale, who worked under former Boston manager Terry Francona, is still under contract for a year with the Red Sox. So he is negotiating his buyout, the source said.
Ultimately, the Red Sox will pick up some of his 2012 salary and the Orioles will pick up some of it.
It's just a matter of time before the Orioles announce that Hale has rejoined Buck Showalter -- the two were together for three years with the Texas Rangers.
