Aspic alert: Woman's Industrial Kitchen opening on Tuesday

December 05, 2011|By Richard Gorelick | The Baltimore Sun

Irene Smith's Woman's Industrial Kitchen is scheduled to open on Tuesday.

Smith, who owns and operates the popular Souper Freaks food truck, announced in October that she would be taking over the historic lunchroom space in the Woman's Industrial Exchange.

The lunchroom, famed for its chicken salad and tomato aspic, was run by the non profit Woman's Industrial Exchange until 2002. Since then, the space has been leased out to a succession of outside operators, some of whom have tried to run it like an old-fashioned lunch room, others who did not.

Smith has stated her intention to restore the spirit of the original lunchroom.
