Debate over O'Malley's letter to the UM law clinic could use more sanity and truth

December 01, 2011

Letter writer Tommy Landers claims that the University of Maryland Environmental Law Clinic is protecting the Chesapeake Bay ("Governor's letter to law dean disappointing," Nov. 28).

Yet in the case of the Hudson farm in Berlin, there is no entry to the Chesapeake. The ditch with bacteria crosses Route 50 and drains into Sinepuxent Bay south of Ocean City before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean.

Moreover, the charge of improper storage of chicken manure was proven false, but the Hudsons continue to be badgered. The writer sounds like one who would object to a Boy Scout urinating in the woods.

Let's get some sanity and truth in the waterway cleanup discussion. The clinic at UM should assign a group of law students to defend the Hudsons. That would be only fair, and a wiser use of my tax money that supports UM.
