School system says boy had weapon in school

November 28, 2011|By Tricia Bishop, The Baltimore Sun

Police arrested a 10th grader at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute for allegedly possessing a handgun, the city public school system announced Monday. The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center.

He faces "maximum consequences," including expulsion, according to a statement from the school system's public information office. Poly police and administrators tracked the student down after receiving a "tip from Baltimore police," the statement said.

They "searched the student and found a gun on his person. Nobody was injured or harmed as a result of the incident, and the academic day was uninterrupted for all other students."
