High school highlights: Howard opens season with win over Mt. Hebron

WHO wins first game of the season

The Howard Lions ice hockey team began its season with an 8-7 win against Mt. Hebron. Two short-handed goals led the Lions to victory.

Matt Taylor, Doug Noonan and Konner Ruggles each scored two goals for Howard, while Justin Overstreet and Tyler McCauley had one each.

Mt. Hebron's scoring came from Mason Lichliter (two), David Cranston (two), Garrett Smith, David Yacynych and Connor DuBois. The Vikings had the lead with a minute and a half left in the game.

David Boudjeda was in net for Howard and turned away 15 shots. Kasper Nillson and Kevin Duke were in net for Mt. Hebron and turned away 30 shots on net.

Wilde Lake/Hammond/Oakland Mills defeated Reservoir, 9-8, in the teams' first game of the season. W/H/O's freshman goalie Alexa Kanakry made 27 saves and was also credited with an assist. W/H/O's goals came from Andrew Amick (six), Ben Burmester (two) and Tim Bryson. Assists were provided by Michael Amick (two) and Burmester.

Reservoir goalie Louis Consoli made 14 saves and was credited with two assists. The team's scoring was provided by Luke Roarty (five goals), Darian Miller (three goals) and Matthew Jackson (one assist).
