More soccer in M&T Bank Stadium's future?

Ravens working to bring two international soccer matches to Baltimore next summer

The Ravens are currently negotiating with several international soccer clubs with the hope of playing host to two potentially high-profile games in the summer.

“We are working on bringing two international soccer matches to M&T Bank Stadium this summer, but it is too soon to know if we will be successful,” Ravens President Dick Cass said.

M&T Bank Stadium was the site of an exhibition game between A.C. Milan and Chelsea in July 2009 that attracted more than 72,000 fans, which was a sellout. A year later, approximately 36,500 fans watched Inter Milan play Manchester City.

The Ravens were hoping to have a soccer game at the stadium this past summer, but they were unable to secure an agreement.

Team officials have long expressed their desire to have other non-Ravens events at the state-owned facility. Some events that have already been lined up include college football games between Maryland and West Virginia in 2013, Maryland versus Virginia Tech in 2014, Navy against Ohio State in 2014 and the Army-Navy game in 2014.

The Face-Off Classic, the college lacrosse triple header, will take place at M&T Bank Stadium in March, and then the following year, the facility will host the NCAA men’s lacrosse Final Four for the sixth time since 2003.
