Karaoke and DJ Dean will be featured Fri., Nov. 25, 9 p.m., at the Second Chance Saloon (Columbia, 410-545-5844).

An acoustic showdown featuring a variety of local guitarists will take place at the Second Chance Sat., Nov. 26, 9:30 p.m.

Jewish films

The Columbia Jewish Congregation is now accepting subscriptions for its 20th season, which starts in late January 2012.

The series opens Jan. 21, 8 p.m., with a screening of the 2008 Israeli drama "For My Father," which examines the subject of suicide bombers. Other films in the series include "The Infidel" (Feb. 11), "A Hebrew Lesson" (March 10), and "Jewish Luck" (April 21).

Subscriptions run $30 for the series, $24 for three films or, $17 for two films. Single tickets at $9 will be sold at the door. Screenings take place at 8 p.m. in Room 200 at the Columbia Jewish Congregation (5885 Robert Oliver Place). Refreshments and discussion/talk-back are held after each screening.Go to


'Normal' tryouts

The Red Branch Theatre Company will hold auditions for its April area premiere of the musical "Next to Normal" Dec. 3, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and Dec. 6, 6-9 p.m., at the Drama Learning Center on Red Branch Road in Columbia. Callbacks will be held Dec. 10 at 10 a.m.

All roles are open for this production of the Broadway play about a family trying to make it under difficult circumstances. Actors should prepare to sing 16 to 32 bars of a contemporary musical theater song and read a 90-second monologue. An accompanist will be provided. Actors will be paid an honorarium.
