Empty Stocking still needs filling

The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund continues its activities to make the holiday season happier for Harford County residents in need, and as of Monday, the fund had taken in $34,164 on the way to its 2011 goal of $80,000.

The Empty Stocking Fund, which annually helps more than 350 local families, also welcomes the donation of new, unwrapped toys.

Special thanks for recent donations received from Dr. Han Sohn and Family, $2,500; Steven Strawbridge Sr. and Susan Strawbridge, $100; Janet and Timothy Hanratty, $100; Bert and Carol Shek, $100; Ryan Pierson Jr. and Elsie Cerutti, $100; and Marion and Sarah Parker, $100.

Upcoming events

The Harford Ballet Company's production of "The Nutcracker" will be presented Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at Patterson Mill High School, 85 Patterson Mill Road in Bel Air, and the Empty Stocking Fund will benefit from your attendance.

Come out and support the Jewelry Extravaganza and Holiday Gift Show also on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m at the Bel Air Reckord Armory, 37 North Main Street in Bel Air. The Empty Stocking Fund's annual toy drive with a visit from Santa, will also be held Dec. 3 from 2–4 p.m. at the Bel Air Reckord Armory.

Barnes and Noble's Charity for the Month of November is the Empty Stocking Fund. Stop by the fund's display at Barnes and Noble Booksellers at 620 Marketplace Drive in Bel Air and help the fund to reach its goal by buying a book for a child.

Harford Community College will celebrate the holidays with a concert by two-time Grammy Award winner Rita Coolidge in the Amoss Center Saturday, Dec.10, at 7 p.m. HCC is a contributor to the Empty Stocking Fund and invites all patrons to bring a donation of a new and unwrapped children's gift to this special holiday performance.
