Flacco wins weekly honor

Quarterback becomes second Raven in as many weeks to earn GMC award

November 12, 2011|By Edward Lee

Quarterback Joe Flacco’s direction of the Ravens’ come-from-behind victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night was voted the winner of the GMC “Never Say Never Moment of the Week,” it was announced Friday.

Flacco’s 26-yard touchdown strike to rookie wide receiver Torrey Smith with eight seconds left in the fourth quarter propelled the Ravens to the 23-20 win against the Steelers.

Fans voting at NFL.com/gmc chose Flacco’s heroics over those of Arizona Cardinals punt returner Patrick Peterson’s game-winning return for a touchdown in overtime against the St. Louis Rams and New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning’s 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jake Ballard with 15 seconds left in a victory over the New England Patriots.

Flacco’s win marks the second time in as many weeks that the Ravens have captured the GMC “Never Say Never Moment of the Week.” Running back Ray Rice earned the honor for scoring all three of his touchdowns in the second half of the team’s 30-27 win against the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 30.

After the regular season, fans will have an opportunity to vote for the GMC “Never Say Never Moment of the Year” from among the 17 weekly winners via NFL.com/gmc throughout the month of January.
