More good news

November 10, 2011

Editor:

Thank you for reminding readers of The Aegis of the good work happening in Harford County ("The good news is…," Nov. 4 editorial). We have the good fortune to live in a community where we care for our neighbors, for our social services, our educational institutions, our cultural resources and our natural resources. We Harford Countians care with our time, our talent and our treasure. This philanthropy – this good will – makes Harford County a great place to work, play and live.

Your editorial was very timely because Community Foundation Week begins Nov. 12. The Community Foundation of Harford County is proud to be part of the innovative philanthropy happening throughout the county. At CFHC, we help individuals, families, businesses and nonprofit organizations use their financial resources effectively and efficiently for the public good. In 2011 the Community Foundation and its fund holders have awarded more than $60,000 in grants and scholarships to nonprofits in Harford County. These grants supported programs, among others, for STEM education, arts and culture, children and youth, counseling and therapy, literacy and homelessness prevention.

We know that the investments we make today in Harford County will help to continue the good work and philanthropy, helping people for many years to come. By doing good as a community today, we will make a difference tomorrow.
