MaGerk's interior (MaGerk's )
MaGerk's in Federal Hill has a reputation. If we're being charitable, we could say it's a sports bar for young people. More accurately, it can be referred to as meat-heat central — especially upstairs.
But that reputation obscures the fact that MaGerk's is, above all, a highly accommodating sports bar, with lots of flat-screens and several specials just on game days.
And, it should also be noted that MaGerk's is not just for Ravens fans. They're also a proud Eagles bar. On Sundays, the sound is split in the building so that fans of each teams can hear their games. "Since the teams are in different divisions, there isn't much rivalry and everyone plays along nicely," said general manager Sarah Clark.
Drinks: MaGerk's has 11 beers on draft. The menu is heavy on domestics, but it also carries Flying Dog, Sam Adams and Yuengling. On game days, the bar doesn't have as many or as generous specials as during the week. But $7 for a bucket of ponies is still a bargain. And Firefly Vodka drinks are $4.
Food: MaGerk's menu has a wide selection of bar grub, including tater tots ($3.50), cheese steaks ($8) and burgers and sandwiches. There are also sushi grill rolls (starting at $4.75) and sushi grill wraps ($8.25). On away days, burgers are half-off.
Décor: Outfitted like a classic sports bar, with lots of football pennants, iconic posters, and high-top tables. On Sundays, its top floor is open to accommodate the extra crowds. The bar has a total of 17 flat screens.
Distance from the stadium: Fairly close: thee minutes by car, about 15 on foot.
Parking: Forget it driver, it's Federal Hill. Metered street parking is available — where you can find it. There's also the West Street Garage, at 40 E. West St., but that fills up quickly on game days.
