Roundup: No. 1 Arundel advances to face No. 4 Broadneck in 4A East volleyball final

The top-ranked Arundel girls volleyball team got off to a slow start, but settled down and beat visiting Leonardtown in straight sets in the Class 4A East regional semifinal Wednesday.

The Wildcats (17-0) won, 25-16, 25-9, 25-12. Ashlyn Tapley had 12 kills and five aces and Shannon Wilks had 11 digs for Arundel, who will host No. 4 Broadneck in Friday’s regional final at 5 p.m.

The Bruins (13-2) were led by Dinah Jones (11 kills) and sisters Alli and Mimi Graf with 20 digs and 31 assists respectively.

Class 4A North regional semifinal: Taylor Roberts had two scoring runs of 10 points to power host Dulaney past Catonsville, 3-0. The Lions (15-2) won, 25-16, 25-14, 25-15.

Class 3A North regional semifinals: Kelly Lacey and Emily Lansinger had seven kills apiece to pace No. 3 Towson past visiting Bel Air, 3-0. The Generals (14-1) won, 25-14, 25-17, 25-14.

C. Milton Wright beat City, 3-0. Tori Smith had seven kills and three aces for the Mustangs (16-2), who won 25-20, 25-21, 25-17. C. Milton Wright hosts Towson in Friday’s regional final at 4 p.m. The Knights finished their season at 13-4.

Class 3A East regional semifinals: No. 11 Reservoir faced county-rival Howard for a third time this season and for a third time emerged victorious. The Gators, who won 25-22, 25-23, 25-16, were led by Rachel Smith with nine kills, five aces and 15 digs, Kelsea Belt with 15 kills and two blocks and Iulia That with 30 assists. Reservoir faces host No. 5 River Hill, a 3-1 winner over Centennial, in Friday’s regional final at 5 p.m.

Class 2A East regional semifinal: Host No. 6 Fallston relied on their strong serving to carry them through the District VII Sectional and on to the next round of playoffs. Rachael Holehouse led the way with 13 kills and seven aces as the Cougars (17-2) beat visiting North East, 3-0. Fallston won, 25-11, 25-18, 25-16. Abby Claborn added 14 assists for Fallston. Fallston faces the District VII champion, either Parkside or North Caroline, Saturday at 1 p.m.

Class 1A North regional semifinal: Bria McCaskill’s strong passing paved the way for host Western Tech to advance past Carver A&T. The Wolverines (11-4) won, 25-22, 25-18, 25-12.
