Empty Stocking fills, empties and fills again

It's getting closer to that holiday time of year. And The Aegis Empty Stocking, organized in 1990, needs to be filled again.

The Empty Stocking Fund is celebrating 21 years of helping Harford County families and senior citizens during the Christmas holiday season.

The fund accepts both monetary donations and donations of new, unwrapped toys. All donations will be used to help local families and senior citizens.

Toy donation drop-off sites this year include, The Arena Club, 2304 Churchville Road; all branches of Freedom Federal Credit Unions; all branches of BB&T Banks; Kelly's Hair Design, 604 Moores Mill Road; Bank of America, Beards Hill Shopping Plaza, 983 Beards Hill Road; PNC Bank, 140 N. Main St., Bel Air; Elite Spine and Wellness Center, 2107 Laurel Bush Road, Emmorton Professional Building; Jordan Thomas Salon and Spa, 111 Fulford Ave, Bel Air; Rapid Refill, 15 Churchville Road, Bel Air; Enotria Restaurant and Grill, Newport Drive, Forest Hill; and Dollar General, 1606 Dooley Road, Whiteford.

Other drop-off sites include, M&T Bank, Delta branch, 6960 Delta Road; NBRS, National Bank of Rising Sun, 3535 Conowingo Road, Street; Family Generation Hair Salon, 1301 E. Churchville Road, Bel Air; NVS Hair Salon, 312 N. Main St., Bel Air; Susquehanna Bank, 1525 Rock Spring Road, Forest Hill; Parris Castoro, 620 Boulton St., Bel Air and 437 Girard St., Havre de Grace; Long & Foster, Riverside branch, 101 Bata Blvd.; Pat's Pizzeria, 1969 Pulaski Highway, Edgewood, 804 Conowingo Road, Bel Air and 1201 Revolution St., Havre de Grace; FCCAU, 1221-C Brass Mill Road, Belcamp; Lombardo's Market, Norrisville Road, Jarrettsville; Anytime Fitness Center, 5 Bel Air South Parkway, Suite 1401, Festival; PayDay Payroll Service, 728 Rock Spring Road, Bel Air; and Optimal Spine Center, 998 Hospitality Way, Suite 202, Aberdeen.

So far this year, the Empty Stocking Fund has received $29,364.22 in donations. The fundraising goal this year is $80,000.

No donated funds are used for administrative expenses, which are provided by Homestead Publishing Co., publisher of The Aegis, The Record, APG News and The Weekender. All members of the Empty Stocking Committee are volunteers.

Anyone who would like to help brighten the holidays for a needy family or person, please send a check, for any amount to The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 189, Bel Air, Md. 21014.

The Empty Stocking Fund volunteers, many of them retired or former employees of The Aegis and their families, annually provide help to less fortunate Harford County families and senior citizens, aided by the generous donations from county residents, businesses, school clubs, scout troops and other community organizations.

"For the unemployed father or mother who are unable to afford toys for their children, this can be a most difficult time of the year," Jane Brown, an Empty Stocking Fund Committee spokesperson, said. "Please help us help others. No contribution is too small. When added together it provides a holiday for those who might otherwise go without."

The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund Committee said it would like to thank Klein's ShopRite Stores for including the Empty Stocking Fund in their fundraiser, "Partners In Caring Day." The committee also gave special thanks to the elected officials and other celebrities who "helped bag hunger," during "Partners in Caring," as the Empty Stocking Fund netted $8,224.22.

The committee said it would also like to extend thanks and appreciation to the Toys 'R' US Children's Fund for its support of $5,000 given through the Bel Air Store Toys 'R' US/Babies 'R' US.

Barnes and Noble's Charity for the Month of November will be The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund was Barnes and Noble's Charity for the month of November.

North Harford Middle School Peer Helpers and Youth Benefit Elementary School second grade classes will also be collecting toy donations for the Empty Stocking Fund.
