Veterans Day

Anne Arundel Community College holds its annual Veterans' Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the amphitheater outside the Cade Center for Fine Arts, 101 College Parkway in Arnold. A highlight of the program is the reading of names of students, faculty, staff and their family members who are serving or have served in the military. In case of inclement weather, activities will move inside to the Cade Center, room 224. After the ceremony, a reception will be held in the atrium of the Center for Applied Learning and Technology. Art sale

The First Sunday Holiday Art Sale will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, 801 Chase St. in Annapolis. Event features more than 40 artists and crafters offering their wares for sale. There will also be food and refreshments, live music and art exhibits. Free admission and parking. 'Little Women' The Colonial Players presents its musical version of the classic book through Dec. 3 at 108 East St. in Annapolis. Shows at 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays, with a 2 p.m. show Saturday, Nov. 26 and a 7:30 p.m. show Sunday, Nov. 13. Tickets are $20, $15 for students and $10 for those 11 and younger. 'The Taming of the Shrew'

Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Nov. 21-22, for AACC's production of Shakespeare's comedy classic in the Humanities Building Robert E. Kauffman Theater in the Pascal Center for Performing Arts on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. All roles are open. Rehearsals start in early December. Performance dates are Feb. 9-12 and 16-18. Donations needed

The Bowie Baysox have announced that Prince George's Stadium, 4101 Northeast Crain Highway in Bowie, will serve as a collection point for warm clothes donations in conjunction with Louie's Holiday Hope. Gently used winter coats and other warm clothing can be dropped off Monday-Friday between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Information: baysox.com.

Nominations sought

Each year the Rotary Club of Annapolis holds its "Black Tie and Diamonds" fundraiser to benefit a cause or organization. The 2011 event raised $68,100 for the Light House shelter, and the 2012 event, planned for March 3, will benefit the Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation. Nominations are being sought from area 501(c)3 nonprofits, for consideration for the 2013 event.

Candidates should submit the following information:

•Copy of IRS 501(c)3 letter of determination for nonprofit status.

•List of current board of directors with titles.

•A statement of the nature of the organization and the intended use of funds from the Black Tie and Diamonds gala (five-page limit).

•A specific strategy on how the candidate organization will partner with the Rotary Club of Annapolis to sell tickets, raise funds, contribute to the pre-planning implementation, and clean up.

'Operation Paperback'

This nonprofit organization collects gently used books nationwide and sends them to American troops deployed overseas. Since 1999, more than 1.3 million books have been shipped to military personnel around the world. Interested people can go to operationpaperback.org to learn more about the program. The Anne Arundel Volunteer Center has released a Youth Resource Guide, which provides information about nonprofit and faith-based organizations in the county.
