The good news is…

November 03, 2011

The good news is, well, that there's plenty of good news.

It doesn't always seem that way, because it's easy to be distracted by reports of problems, be they traffic jams or gas prices on the rise.

Still, good news can be found. Case in point, Bel Air Elementary School's recent honor from Schools Fight Hunger. It's not so much the recognition that's important in this case as is the lesson being learned at the school. It's the basic lesson kids are supposed to learn when they begin socializing – how to share. In this case, the students are sharing what they have in abundance, food, with those who are less fortunate. It's a logical progression from learning to share a swing or take turns on the sliding board.

And it's hardly the only uplifting story to be found in Harford County on any given week. The Community Foundation of Harford County was recently the recipient of a $15,000 grant from NRBS Financial and the money will help the foundation do a fair amount of good. A Harford native was recently honored for starting a new charity.

And in this issue of The Aegis you can read about a grant being given to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County, and a college student from the county who is making a name for himself in academic debating circles.

Sure, there's plenty out there to get irritated about, but there's reason to have faith in human nature as well.
