Paterno becomes winningest coach, passing Robinson

Joe Paterno continues to impress. The 84-year-old coach passed Grambling State great Eddie Robinson with his 409th win Saturday, giving him the record for the most victories by a Division I football coach.

If South Carolina is going to win the SEC East, it's going to be with defense. Everyone knew losing Marcus Lattimore would be a huge blow for the Gamecocks, and that showed against Tennessee. South Carolina needs to stop people to have a chance to win.

Clemson's loss is another disappointment for the ACC. After several frustrating seasons, the ACC seemed to have a national title contender in the Tigers. A blowout loss to Georgia Tech sent those dreams crashing down.

Florida State is all about the digits. For the second time this season, the Seminoles won a game 34-0. They also have lost two games by a score of 35-30 and have won two by scores of 41-16.

Texas Tech ruined Oklahoma's BCS chances again. Sooners fans hoped if everything worked out just right a one-loss Oklahoma team could still play for a BCS title, but Texas Tech's horrible 41-7 loss to Iowa State hurt any chances the Sooners had.

Kansas State finally looked mortal. The Wildcats looked impressive early on, but that all went out the window in their loss to Oklahoma. The Sooners scored 44 straight points to finish the game and rolled up 690 yards against the Big 12's top defensive team.

The Big Ten lacks a front-runner. Who had Michigan and Penn State in your Legends and Leaders office pool? The struggles of Michigan State and Wisconsin have put the Wolverines and Nittany Lions in the driver's seat for the inaugural conference championship game.

Stanford has what it takes to contend for a BCS title. Some still doubted the Cardinal, but after Saturday night's slugfest against USC Stanford looks like a team ready to play in January.

A win over Navy was huge for Notre Dame and coach Brian Kelly. It was just Navy, but after the week Kelly and the Irish had, a win is just what the doctor ordered. With the second-year coach ruffling some feathers on his team, a loss could have destroyed this team's psyche.

Oklahoma State continues to make its case for a BCS shot. The Cowboys scored 21 points in the first quarter against Baylor and never looked back, winning 59-24. With only a Dec. 3 matchup with Oklahoma standing in its way, Oklahoma State controls its own destiny.
