October 31, 2011

HAGERSTOWN – Even a bizarre October blizzard couldn't slow down Harford Community College's Tyler Muse Saturday.

The freshman harrier claimed medalist honors in the 2011 Region XX Cross Country Championships with a time of 28:45 in the 8K event.

Muse headlined a quartet of Fighting Owls who finished in the top 10 in the school's first cross country championships.

Sophomore Noah Hutton finished third (29:08) and freshman Brandon Smith (30:22) finished ninth. On the women's side, freshman Kaitlin Ames finished third with a time of 22:48 in the 5K event.

The men's team finished second in the region and will send all five runners to the 2011 NJCAA Championships on Nov. 12. Ames and Tessa Hosutt will join them in Hobbs, N.M., for the women's championship race.
