Community support at root of success of Catonsville school's first environmental festival

Letter to the editor

October 26, 2011

Catonsville Elementary School hosted its first Environmental Festival on Oct. 8.

It brought together local businesses, organizations, state agencies and families to learn about and promote environmental awareness.

The environmental committee extends an enormous thank-you to the entire community for supporting this event, which was a huge success!

We'd especially like to thank Ned Atwater and Abundance Catering for donating wonderful food; Friends of Patapsco Valley Heritage and Greenway for developing a scavenger hunt and rangers from Patapsco Valley State Park for a great display.

Also, Russell Toyota for a hybrid car display and Samaritan Women for organic produce.

We give a huge shout out to Joe DeSilva and Eric Lund from Catonsville High School with their band of intrepid student volunteers for wonderful, environmentally friendly inventions.

Many other organizations, too numerous to mention, contributed to the effort.

The success of this first fair was due in large part to our many parents and staff volunteers.

Thank you, Catonsville!

We hope to see you next fall.

Melanie Parker, Nancy Henderson and Rebekah Kaufman, Environmental Fair co-chairwomen
