Boys Athlete of the Week: Travis Jenkins, Kenwood, football

October 25, 2011

Jenkins did all he could to keep the Bluebirds in their game Friday against Hereford, scoring five touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving and one on a return). The senior, who plays running back, slot receiver and defensive back, accounted for 402 all-purpose yards to bring his season total to 1,697. He scored on 65- and 40-yard receptions, ran for 73- and 8-yard touchdowns and ran back the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in the 51-32 loss. He also made three solo tackles and broke up one pass. "He's like a one-man team," Bluebirds coach Tony Ruocco said. A first-team All-Baltimore County return man last fall, he has 3,885 total yards and 31 touchdowns in his career. Jenkins, who has a 3.0 GPA and also plays basketball and runs track, is drawing attention from Towson, Temple and Rutgers among other football programs.

Others considered: Phil Cocchiaro, South River, soccer; Allen Cross, Long Reach, football; Cody Niedermeier, Broadneck, soccer; Julian Rivera, Hereford, cross country; Walter Roche, John Carroll, football.
