Two Md. stories show the effect of one-party rule

October 25, 2011

Interesting events in politics this past week. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake is reviewing 40 cabinet members. Are you kidding me, it takes 40 cabinet members to advise the mayor? No wonder the city is broke, closing rec centers and closing fire houses.

Then in Baltimore County, Councilman Kenneth N. Oliver has a state job while still working as a councilman, a direct violation of the county charter. Maryland has an unemployment rate of 7.4 percent and there is no one else who can fill this state position?

This is what happens when there is a one party rule and exactly why the new redistricting map should face a court challenge.
