October 19, 2011

Drew Lovell, of Troop 973, sponsored by St. Mary's Episcopal Church, in Abingdon, completed his Eagle Scout project Oct. 8 at the Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connolly Road, in Fallston. His project involved building a brick paver walkway and platform at Rebel's Dog Park to be used by dog owners as they let their dogs play off leash in the park. His project also included landscaping the surrounding ground to divert rain water runoff which previously made the area muddy.

Drew's project involved months of planning and fundraising. The work was completed over two weekends with the help more than 75 Scouts and adults from the troop and local community putting in more than 300 hours of collective work time. Erin Long, director of marketing and community outreach for the Harford Humane Society, said the project has already received praises and positive reviews from the dog owners, and the society is very appreciative of Drew for leading the project and all the volunteer workers who built it.
