Birk latest Raven to be fined

Center reportedly cited for not wearing microphone

October 12, 2011|By Jeff Zrebiec

Ravens center Matt Birk has been fined $5,000, but it's not for a late hit or critical comments about an officiating crew. Birk apparently didn't wear a microphone for a recent game.

Birk's agent, Joe Linta, told that Birk was notified by the NFL of the fine Monday. Linta's reasoning was that Birk couldn't get the microphone to work in a satisfactory manner.

Each team is required to have a microphone placed in the pads of one or two interior offensive lineman, according to the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The rule, according to the, is supposed to enhance the sound of the game.

I'm sure Birk will address the issue when the Ravens locker room opens to reporters later today. Linta hasn't immediately responded to request for comment from The Sun.
