A 17-year-old woman was killed in a single-car accident Wednesday morning after she apparently lost control of her vehicle on a wet road and struck a vacant house in Pasadena.

The victim was identified by the Anne Arundel County Police Department as Kala Marie Austin, of the 3600 block of Robin Air Court in Pasadena.

According to police, officers from the department's Eastern District responded at 7:37 a.m. to a report of an accident near Mountain Road and Fairwood Drive in Pasadena. They found that Austin, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta, had sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the accident. No one else was in the car. Austin was transported to Baltimore-Washington Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

The officers' initial investigation showed that Austin was driving east on Mountain Road approaching Fairwood Drive when she apparently lost control of her car, crossed over westbound traffic and struck a vacant house. Police believe wet road conditions and speed may have been contributing factors in the accident, and the investigation is continuing.
