Caltabiano helps Mettrick to 200th win

Sophomore Geaton Caltabiano (Mount St. Joseph) scored twice for Loyola on Sunday afternoon and coach Mark Mettrick earned his 200th career victory as the Greyhounds (7-4-1, 2-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) won, 2-0, at Saint Peter's (3-8, 1-2). Mettrick (200-110-33) is the 45th active coach to win 200 games. Caltabiano, a transfer from George Mason, scored in the sixth minute on a cross from sophomore Diego McQuestion (Gilman) and headed in a cross from classmate Stephen Dooley in the 28th minute, becoming the first Greyhound with multiple scores in a game since Glenn Leitch had three against Marist last Oct. 31. Graduate senior Kyle Wittman (Calvert Hall) had four saves, three in the second half, to preserve the shutout.

More men's soccer: Freshman Zoncher Dennis scored in the 39th and 87th minutes to lift host Mount St. Mary's (5-5-1, 2-2-0 Northeast Conference) to a 3-2 victory against Long Island (3-6-3, 1-2-1 NEC). Dennis leads the team with nine goals. Senior Chris Wheeler had a goal and an assist to tie the Mount Division I career point mark with 80. … On Saturday night, senior forward Kingsley Onwuka (Kenwood/CCBC-Essex) scored from 12 yards in the 73rd minute on a pass from sophomore linemate Pete Caringi III (Calvert Hall) as visiting UMBC (5-3-3, 2-0-0 America East) earned a 1-0 victory over preseason conference favorite Boston University (5-6-0, 1-1-0). The Retrievers extended their unbeaten streak to three games. UMBC is 2-0-0 in America East play for the second time in nine league seasons and the first time since a 3-0-0 start in 2005.

Skidmore's assists set up Towson women again, 3-1

Cheyenne Skidmore (Liberty) had three assists for the second straight game as the Towson women's soccer team (7-7-0, 2-4-0 Colonial Athletic Association) earned its second win in a row, 3-1 over visiting Northeastern (7-6-1, 3-2-1). Skidmore has assisted on each of the Tigers' past six goals. Towson got goals Sunday from Emily Banes, Sofia Read and Courtney McKee. The Tigers' Jocelyn Papciak (Atholton) made three saves.

More women's soccer: Gigi Mangione (McDonogh), Nichole Schiro and Chantal Celestin scored to lift visiting Loyola (4-9-0, 2-1-0 MAAC) to its first road win of the season, 3-2 against Niagara (5-8-0, 3-1-0 MAAC). … UMBC's Rachel McKee (Mount Hebron) scored her fourth goal in the past three games, but Sady Tobin's goal with 16 minutes left was the difference as host Maine (4-6-1, 1-3-0 America East) emerged with a 2-1 win over the Retrievers (0-11-2, 0-3-1). … Murphee Greenley scored in the 18th minute as Lehigh (6-5-1, 2-1 Patriot League) handed Navy (8-5-2, 1-2) its second straight road defeat, 1-0. … Jackie Corley's goal and assist led visiting Mount St.Mary's (4-6-2, 2-2-0 NEC) to a 2-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson (4-6-1, 1-4-0). … On Saturday night, Yewande Balogun made three saves in overtime to preserve a 0-0 tie for No. 11 Maryland (8-2-4, 2-2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) in its home match against No. 6 Wake Forest (11-1-2, 4-0-2).

Field hockey: Salisbury, ranked No. 1 in Division III, earned a 3-0 win at No. 6 College of New Jersey. The visiting Sea Gulls (12-0) got two goals from Courtney Webster and one from Alison Bloodsworth to beat the Lions (10-2).
