City Council member thanks her Ward 1 constituents, endorses current mayor

October 05, 2011

I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have served you on the Laurel City Council. Your calls, well wishes, support and encouragement have seen me through quite a few difficult days. While I won't be your elected representative after November, I will always be your friend and available to assist you in any way I can.

I want to thank and recognize the City Council members I have been honored to serve with. I am very proud of the city's Drive 25 — Keep Kids Alive program that I initiated. I am proud to be a part of a city government that listens to its citizens. My record as an elected official includes improvements and additions in our Parks and Recreation programs; and public works projects that added sidewalks, enhanced streetscapes and kept our streets well maintained. I am particularly proud of adding police officers for our safety, emphasizing rapid emergency response and helping put in place economic development programs. I enjoyed chairing the city's Public Works and Transportation Committee and the dedicated citizens who serve on this committee.

However, none of my personal achievements would have happened without the vision, dedication, leadership and personal mentorship of Mayor Craig A. Moe. The city has never been in better shape than it is today, structurally and financially. The city has 24-hour access to information about government activities and services, open and available to everyone. His masterful fiscal management created strong reserves, reduced purchasing costs of high-ticket items, maintained the integrity of the Employee Pension Fund and prevented layoffs and furloughs when the budget was stressed from outside pressures. The city is clean and well protected, and enjoys beautiful parks and good streets.

I have served with Mayor Moe for eight years. I know the dedication he has to keep Laurel one of Maryland's greatest cities. He has made a difference and will continue to do so. I am voting for him; and I hope you will, too. Laurel needs Craig Moe. Your vote will continue the forward progress the city has enjoyed under his leadership. Please help me keep Craig Moe mayor of our great city.

I look forward to seeing you around town.
