Bay Area Shuckers to play their first-ever game Dec. 3

The Bay Area Shuckers of the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League will tip off their their inaugural 2011-2012 season Dec. 3 at the Beltway Bombers, and their home opener is against the Bombers on Dec.17 at 7 p.m. at the Annapolis Area Christian School's Kilby Center. The Shuckers will be part of the league's South Division with the Bombers, based in Waldorf; the Chesapeake (Va.) Tru Hope Trailblazers; the Enterprise, based in Philadelphia; and the Destroyers, who will call Philadelphia and Wilmington, Del., home.


Johns Hopkins football rises to No. 16 in AFCA poll

The Johns Hopkins football team jumped four spots to No. 16 in this week's American Football Coaches Association Division III Poll. The Blue Jays (5-0) earned 397 points to rank 16th and move up four spots from last week's ranking of 20th.

More football: Salisbury (4-0, 2-0 Empire 8) rose to No. 22 in the latest Top 25 poll. The Sea Gulls earned 115 points in the poll, ahead of Alfred (78 points), Louisiana College (59) and Franklin (51).

Women's soccer: Frostburg State sophomore forward Adria Graham earned the Capital Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week award for the second time this season. … Navy sophomore forward Ashlynn Soellner was tabbed as the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, and freshman forward Morgan Dankanich was named the league's Rookie of the Week. … Salisbury freshman goalkeeper Michelle Conrad was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. … Stevenson senior forward Stephanie Eyler scored a hat trick Saturday at Hood to break the CAC career scoring record. Eyler, who has 16 career multi-goal games, raised her total to 56 career goals.

Men's soccer: Navy's Zach Davis was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. … For the second time in three weeks, Frostburg State junior midfielder Ryan Russell (College of Southern Maryland) was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week. … Washington College senior forward Jordan Haas was chosen as the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Women's volleyball: Towson sophomore outside hitter Katy Buck was named the Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week. … UMBC freshman Dalton Tolliver (Notre Dame Prep) was chosen as the America East Rookie of the Week. … After being named the conference's best rookie four times in a row, UMES' Saitaua Iosia was hailed as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week. … St. Mary's College junior outside hitter Cecilia Blanc (Poolesville) earned her first career CAC Volleyball Player of the Week Award.
