The Howard County Recreation and Parks' Celebration of Sports golf tournament will be held Oct. 14 at Timbers at Troy. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Fees: $85 (individual); $340 (team). Register by calling 410-313-7275 or online at


The regular session of Talkin' Baseball will be held Sat., Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. at Brighton Gardens, 7110 Minstrel Way, Columbia. Bill Gilbert will discuss his book, "Now Pitching, Bob Feller." Call 410-740-1145.

The Dazzle Dash will be held Nov. 19 for runners and Nov. 20 for walkers. This is a 1.4-mile run or walk through the Symphony of Lights. Early registration ends Nov. 1. Save $5 by registering early. Go to

The Savage Boys and Girls Club will hold travel team tryouts for fifth-grade boys (Oct. 12 and 13), sixth-grade boys (Oct. 6) and eighth-grade boys (Oct. 10 and 11). All tryouts will be held at Murray Hill Middle School from 6-7:30 p.m. Players are encouraged to attend both sessions.

Team registration is being accepting for the 18th annual Northwest Tip-Off tournament scheduled for Dec. 3-5, at The Park School in Baltimore County. Dual-age competition levels for boys and girls in the 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14 age groupings are available. The Northwest Travel Basketball League is accepting registration for its season, which begins Dec. 9 at The Park School in Baltimore County. Friday night competition is available for 9/10 boys and 11/12 girls. Saturday afternoon and evening competition is for 7/8 boys, 11/12 and 13/14 boys and 9/10 girls. Call 410-363-8610.


The Baltimore Hawks will hold tryouts for its summer lacrosse club team Oct. 30 from 8-10 a.m. at Mustang Stadium on the Owings Mills Campus of Stevenson University. The Hawks will hold tryouts for players graduating in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Tryout fee: $40 (non-refundable).

Stevenson University will host the Meghan Puls Lacrosse Classic Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. to help raise money for the Meghan Puls Foundation. The classic will feature four teams: Stevenson, Stevens Institute of Technology, Virginia Wesleyan College and Goucher College. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Lions Camp Merrick diabetes camp. Other beneficiaries include The Seton Keough High School Scholarship, Marillac and Focus programs. Admission is free, but a suggested donation of $5 is encouraged.
