An elderly Reisterstown man died Saturday morning in an accident on Interstate 83 near Shawan Road in Hunt Valley, according to Maryland State Police.

Henry Lee Cote, 81, died at the scene, police said.

Cote, driving a northbound pickup truck, was trying to pass another vehicle at the time of the crash, police said. But he returned to his lane too quickly and clipped the front of the vehicle he was passing, according to investigators.

Cote's truck rolled over and he was thrown from it. He was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

The other driver only sustained minor injuries.

Officers from the Golden Ring barracks and several firefighters responded to the crash shortly before noon.

The crash stalled traffic on the highway and forced officers to divert many motorists onto alternate routes.
