Moheyer tops Chang in 1st round of Mid-Amateur

John Moheyer (Maryland) of Baltimore, who had rallied on the back nine to win three holes in a row and go 2-up, saw his advantage slip to 1 up, before a final birdie at the par-3 17th enabled him to get by Jimmy Chang of San Marino, Calif., 2 and 1, in the first round of the 31st U.S. Mid-Amateur championship at the Shadow Hawk Golf Club in suburban Houston, Texas.

More golf: Serge Hogg of Baltimore, 5-down after No. 11, rallied to win three of the next four holes, before Anthony Barrera, San Jose, Calif., closed him out, 3 and 2.
