Disciplined doctors: Naughty Businesses of the Week

Here's the list of physicians and other medical professionals who were disciplined by the Maryland Board of Physicians in July. You might recognize at least one name in the list from news stories we've written.


Ehigiator Akhigbe, M.D.
Area of Practice: General Practice (Silver Spring, MD)
Suspension.  The Board determined that the physician pled guilty to a crime of moral turpitude (health care fraud and false statements in Health Care Matters), therefore, was subject to a mandatory suspension.  Date of Action: July 28, 2011   
 
Anoma Bandara, M.D.
Area of Practice: Internal Medicine (Gaithersburg, MD)
Reprimand; Probation for a minimum of 18 months with terms and conditions.  The Board found that the physician failed to keep adequate medical records in six patients reviewed. Date of Action: July 28, 2011
 
Elizabeth A. Beebe, P.A.
Area of Practice: Physician Assistant (Hagerstown, MD)  
Revocation.  The Board took action based upon the physician assistant’s writing of unauthorized prescriptions for Controlled Dangerous Substances for her personal use, substance abuse issues and unprofessional conduct in the practice as a physician assistant.  Date of Action: July 29, 2011
 
Mark H. Eig, M.D.
Area of Practice: Internal Medicine (Silver Spring, MD)
Termination of probationary terms and conditions imposed by the Consent Order dated May 6, 2009.  The physician has complied with the terms and conditions precedent.  Date of Action:  July 7, 2011
 
Frances B. Fernandes, M.D.
Area of Practice: General Practice (Rockville, MD)
Summary Suspension affirmed.  The Board determined that there exists a substantial likelihood of a risk of serious harm to the public health, safety and welfare in the physician’s continued practice.  Date of Action: July 6, 2011
 
O. Wendell Flowers, M.D.
Area of Practice: Pediatrics (Adelphi, MD)
Administrative fine of 1,200; terms and conditions. The physician affirmed in his 2010 renewal application that he had obtained the required CME credit hours when he had not. Date of Action:  July 12, 2011  
 
Leonard S. Goldstein, M.D.
Area of Practice: Psychiatry (Fairfax, VA)
Termination of probationary terms and conditions imposed by the Consent Order dated December 16, 2010.  The physician has complied with the terms and conditions precedent.  Date of Action:  July 6, 2011
