Side by Side tutor found supportive environment at Scotchtown Hills Elementary

August 24, 2011

I am writing to express my thanks and appreciation to the staff of Scotchtown Elementary School for the exemplary support and encouragement extended to me when I tutored several students there as a Side By Side volunteer.

Although Side By Side is multi-faceted, the best fit for me was working with small groups of early elementary-age children in the areas of reading, language and math. But such an arrangement presents challenges.

To run a successful small group program, you need more than the average welcome and more than the normal support from the school. I found all that and more at Scotchtown. The faculty and staff are one of the most dynamic, energetic, student-focused groups that I've had the pleasure of encountering in close to 40 years of involvement with educational facilities in several states and one other country.

As I came to know both the support and professional staff, I realized how fortunate the community is to have such a school, one that prioritizes student progress and family support. In this age of numbers, it was most refreshing to encounter a facility that has its basis in relationships. The whole environment reflects high expectations and firm discipline backed by intense dedication. I was privileged to have the opportunity to work beside them.

I am writing to express my heartfelt thanks and give them some of the recognition they deserve.
