Most BGE customers to have power restored by afternoon

More than 100,000 customers had lost power from weekend storms

The majority of customers who lost power during storms Sunday should have their electric service restored by early Monday afternoon, BGE officials said, though some scattered outages will extend later in the day.

Since the storms began Friday, the utility company has restored service to more than 100,000 customers, including 36,000 homes and businesses Sunday. As of 11:25 a.m., about 450 customers were without power, about 45 in Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties and the rest in Baltimore City.

A series of strong weather systems with heavy rain, lightning and wind began Friday and continued sporadically through the weekend, causing disruptions in BGE's Central Maryland service area. Workers had to contend with downed trees and large limbs, many of which had fallen onto power lines and other electric equipment. The hardest hit areas were Baltimore City, Baltimore, Howard and Anne Arundel counties, the utility reported.

Extensive flooding in the Dundalk area has led to the temporary suspension of natural gas and electric service to about 20 customers in the Brentwood Avenue and Trappe Road neighborhoods, BGE officials said. Those customers should have their gas-fed appliances checked by a licensed plumber and have their electrical equipment checked by a licensed electrician. BGE will restore service once any necessary repairs are completed and the homes are determined to be safe.
