Heat a factor in two more Md. deaths

Season's total is 27

August 16, 2011|By Frank D. Roylance, The Baltimore Sun

Two more Marylanders have died this summer from heat-related causes. State public health officials said both deaths occurred in Baltimore, and both victims had underlying illnesses that made them more vulnerable to the heat.

One was a man between 45 and 64 years of age. The other man's age was not available. The latter's death occurred earlier in the summer, but the cause was not confirmed until this week.

So far this season, 27 people have died in Maryland from heat-related causes, according to the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Last summer, the hottest on record for Baltimore, saw 32 such deaths statewide.
