Leonard and Ann Guralnick, of Columbia, announce the marriage of their daughter, Karen Ann Guralnick, to Fikile Richard Brushett, son of Stephen Brushett and Refiloe Bam, of Silver Spring, on June 25, 2011.
The bride is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where she earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. She is employed by Exxon Mobil at the Joliet Refinery, in Illinois.
The groom is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and earned a doctorate in chemical and biomolecular engineering from the University of Illinois. He is a post-doctoral researcher at the Argonne National Laboratory, near Chicago.
The ceremony and reception were held at the Columbia Sheraton Hotel. Amber Arshad, a lifelong friend of the bride, served as the maid of honor. The groom's college roommate, John Ingram, was the best man.
The couple honeymooned in Hawaii and live in Oswego, Ill.
Ngozi Okaro and Eric Palmer
Former Columbia residents Amy Powell, now of Baltimore, and James Okaro, now of Lagos, Nigeria, announce the engagement of their daughter, Ngozi Okaro, to Eric Palmer, son of Cecilia James, of Gastonia, N.C., and Clarence James, of Williamstown, N.J.
The bride-to-be is a graduate of Wilde Lake High School; earned a Bachelor of Arts from Morgan State University; and earned a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. She is self-employed as a philanthropic adviser.
The future groom is a graduate of Glassboro High School, in Glassboro, N.J., and earned a Bachelor of Science from Wilkes University, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He is a controller at Infrastructure Technologies Inc.
A wedding is planned for Sept. 24.
Bryce and Casey Armstrong
Donna Carpenter, of Severn, announces the marriage of her daughter, Casey Elena Nagle, to Bryce Todd Armstrong, son of Marilyn Armstrong, of Columbia, and Alan Armstrong, of Seabrook Island, S.C., on July 2, 2011.
The bride is a 2001 graduate of Westlake High School and a 2005 graduate of the University of Maryland. She is a fifth-grade teacher in the Frederick County Public School system.
The groom is a 1994 graduate of Hammond High School and a 1998 graduate of the University of Colorado. He served as a Marine in Iraq and Afghanistan, and now works for the Department of Defense.
A ceremony was held at the American Visionary Art Museum, in Baltimore. Matthew Hoh officiated. Jillian Keys, sister of the bride, served as the maid of honor. Ryan Armstrong, brother of the groom, served as the best man.
A reception followed at the museum.
The couple honeymooned in Italy and live in Leesburg, Va.
