Library delayed

August 11, 2011

Editor:

On behalf of the Harford County Public Library Board of Trustees, I would like to clarify statements made by a representative of the Department of Parks and Recreation in yesterday's edition of The Aegis, in the article, Churchville Library is Cut from the Agenda. The Churchville Library has been in the planning process for several years and the library remains firmly committed to the project. The library requested capital funding in the fiscal year 2012 capital budget to begin construction of the project.

However, the library was requested to defer the request because of the economic situation. As a result, the library revised the request for fiscal year 2013. As time passed, it did not appear to be promising that the funding would even be available in fiscal year 2013 and the county submitted the capital request for the Churchville Library for fiscal year 2017. This was approved by the County Council in May.

The Library Board of Trustees is committed in ensuring that essential public library services and resources continue to be provided to our residents throughout Harford County, including in the Churchville area. Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions.

Thank you.

Mary Hastler, Director

Harford County Public Library
