Larry Wilmore says Obama needs to 'go blacker'

August 11, 2011|By Luke Broadwater

Comedian Larry Wilmore expressed his frustration last night that Standard & Poor's downgrade of U.S. treasury bonds happened under President Barack Obama -- and then offered some advice to the president.

"America finally gets our first black president and our credit goes bad. F---!" Wilmore said.

With conservative media outlets already using African-American stereotypes when writing about Obama (talking about his love of basketball, and calling his birthday party a "Hip Hop BBQ") Wilmore said it's time for the president to begin embracing such stereotypes.

"It's too late. We're in the red. Now it's time to go blacker," he joked.

Wilmore suggested Obama trade in his "mom jeans" for low-riding jeans that hang below his butt.

"Hey, if he's going to be labeled black at least own it," he said. "And when I say 'own it' I mean 'rent it.'"

Wilmore then advised Obama to steal Canada's identity to open a new line of credit, and if China comes looking for its payments, turn off the lights, let the kids answer the door and threaten to cut any potential snitches (like Jon Stewart).
