Volunteer Center Serving Howard County — Hosting monthly disaster volunteer information and orientation sessions to inform community members on how to plan, prepare and effectively serve in times of disaster to improve community preparedness and resiliency. Each session will identify local response agencies and inform participants on how they can prepare and train to effectively volunteer after a disaster. American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery — Seeking volunteer drivers (and their vehicles) to help provide transportation assistance for Howard County cancer patients who need transportation to and from treatment facilities. "Road" volunteers provide an essential and necessary service for patients who have no car, may be too ill to drive or have family members and friends who may not have the time or financial means to provide this support. A-OK Mentoring-Tutoring Inc. — Recruiting and training adult volunteers to be mentor-tutors to elementary school students in several northern Laurel schools. Volunteers meet with students during the school day or in after-school programs, individually or in small groups. Volunteers should enjoy interacting with children, have a strong interest in the success of each student and be willing to commit to meet for one hour a week for one school year.
