What started out as movies on a Saturday night at the Reckord Armory in Bel Air has grown into a true film festival on Main Street attracting film lovers of all ages. In its third year, the Town of Bel Air Film Festival will transform Reckord Armory into a movie house showing some of the same independent films that celebrities might have seen at Sundance, Tribeca and Toronto festivals.

“We see ourselves as a legitimate film festival,” says Trish Heidenreich, director of Bel Air’s Department of Economic Development, who organizes the event with Rebecca Jessop of the town’s Cultural Arts Commission.

The best thing? You don’t have to get a babysitter to go. “The movies need to be ones that you can bring your family to,” says Heidenreich.

This year’s festival takes place October 21 to 23 and includes one film on Friday night, two on Saturday afternoon and a showcase of short student films on Sunday afternoon. Tickets are $5/film per individual or $10 for an all-access pass. Each ticket includes a box of popcorn and a drink. Kids under 10 are free. Families can bring their own snacks, too. There is no charge for the student films.
