Five miles of trails, twilight canoe trips and an environmental learning center make Eden Mill Nature Center a haven for outdoor lovers of all ages. “People come for the interpretive programs, the hiking and the canoeing and kayaking,” says program director and naturalist Frank Marsden.

Located in Pylesville, and situated along Deer Creek, Eden Mill offers classes for adults in avian biology, beekeeping, wildlife photography and agro-ecology through its Piedmont Learning Center. It even has a program on how to become an interpretive educator.

Founded in 1991, the center, which includes a 200-year-old grist mill, encompasses 120 acres and is run mostly by volunteers who lead the programs, and help maintain the trails and the nature center, which is home to live turtles, frogs, fish, snakes and bees. There is also an accessible canoe launch. Activities like movie nights, arts and crafts workshops, and nature walks make enjoying nature a family affair.
