Why does Felix Pie celebrate walk-off home runs like this?

August 01, 2011|By Matt Vensel

Here comes your daily random blog post about something that might only fascinate me and a few others.

Apparently, Felix Pie, the preferred quirky Orioles outfielder of this blog, celebrates walk-off home runs hit by his teammates in a bizarre way. When the players swarm that night’s hero as he touches home plate, Pie scrambles from the pack to retrieve the batting helmet tossed aside by said hero on his way to the plate.

Thanks to the Orioles blog Camden Depot for tipping me off to the original thread on Orioles Hangout.

This wasn’t a one-time thing. Some folks at Orioles Hangout made a few GIFs of Pie chasing down batting helmets, and each is unique and highly entertaining. See for yourself at the above links.

Why does Pie do this? That’s what I’m trying to find out. If you have an answer -- or if you want to speculate on the reason in a ridiculous manner -- feel free to do so in the comments section.
