The mother of a 3-year-old Columbia boy and her boyfriend are not being cooperative in the homicide investigation surrounding the child's April death, Howard County police said Monday.

Police did not identified the mother nor her boyfriend, and charges have not been filed in the case. Police said in as statement that those two adults had been home with the victim, Elijah Lajeuness, in the residence in the 9600 block of Basket Ring Road when he died April 13.

Police were called to the house about 4 a.m. where they said they found Elijah unresponsive. He was taken to Howard County General Hospital and was later pronounced dead. The state's medical examiner determined last week that the boy was asphyxiated.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. According to police, Lajeuness' mother called police to report that her son wasn't breathing. There were no signs of forced entry and nobody else was in the residence around that time, police said.

The autopsy report showed that the boy had no medical conditions that contributed to his death. Police said that the boy's 8-year old sibling was also home when they arrived.
