A 22-year-old man was critically wounded after being shot in the Charles North neighborhood early Friday morning, according to Baltimore Police.
The incident occurred at 12:30 a.m., in the 1900 block of Maryland Ave., police said.
The victim was standing at a bus stop when he was approached by two people, police spokesman Detective Kevin Brown said.
One pulled out a gun and fired, hitting the victim twice in the back, chief police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
The victim was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment, Guglielmi said. The man was reported to be in stable but serious condition Friday afternoon, Brown said.
City officials and business owners have long been working to transform the area, known as the Station North Arts and Entertainment District, and there's been some success. Art galleries, bars, a bookstore and other businesses have popped up on a block that was largely abandoned a decade ago. The Load of Fun studios and Maryland Institute College of Art's Studio Center are one block away.
The Single Carrot Theatre annually hosts a reading of the names of homicide victims to raise awareness and commemorate the victims.
