Habitat seeks more helpers

July 28, 2011

The recent merger of two Habitat for Humanity affiliates - Harford and Cecil - into one has created more opportunities for eager volunteers to participate.

While our name may have changed, the mission of Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna remains the same. We seek to eliminate substandard housing and create homeownership opportunities by building, renovating and repairing homes.

This is not a giveaway program. Habitat partners with low-income families to builds simple, decent houses. The homes are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with no-interest loans. Monthly mortgage payments are then used to build more homes for other families in need.

Since its founding in 1993, Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna has served 150 families, built 57 homes, and completed 127 repair projects. This amounts to hundreds of lives transformed by compassionate hearts.

None of these goals would have been realized without generous and selfless volunteers. Simply put - our volunteers make it happen!

Uniting with our mission is simple. We seek skilled and unskilled construction volunteers, mentors to encourage our partner families, young adults to connect through Habitat Young Professionals, and enthusiastic people to help us plan our home dedications. Individuals, families, business groups, civic organizations and churches are all welcome!

Remember - no action is ever too small to count. As anthropologist, Margaret Mead, once said, "Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
