Maryland's Kenny Tate named to preseason All-ACC first team

July 27, 2011

Senior linebacker Kenny Tate was Maryland's lone selection to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team.

The 25-man team was voted on by the ACC media at the conference's annual Football Kickoff in Pinehurst, N.C.

Tate, who moved to linebacker during spring practice, was a 2010 first-team All-ACC pick at safety. The DeMatha graduate led the Terps with a team-best 58 solo tackles and 100 total tackles, which was good for second on the team. Tate also recorded 8.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, starting all 13 games.

Tate is also on watch lists for the Lott Trophy, the Bronco Nagurski Trophy, the Bednarik Award and the Butkus Award.
